Ageing in PWS

As care for Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) improves, more adults with PWS are living into middle age and beyond.

However, it's unclear what health issues they may face as they grow older, such as problems related to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, frailty, and cognitive decline. Some studies suggest they may be at risk of early cognitive decline, similar to what's seen in other neurodevelopmental disorders.

These challenges may be linked to factors like obesity, hormone imbalances, and genetic abnormalities. Research is needed to understand these health issues and determine if there's evidence of premature aging and increased risk of cognitive decline in adults with PWS in the UK.
